Your historic Denver walking tour at the State Capitol building, and then you'll hit the pavement, strolling down the streets, including a must-see highlight: Larimer Square—the city’s oldest block—where you can admire the historic architecture of landmark 19th-century buildings.

You'll pass by world-class museums like the Denver Art Museum as you hear about well-known Denverites from centuries past, including founding father General William H. Larimer. You'll see the famous Denver Mint, which produces 10 billion coins annually, and hear about the robberies that took place there.

Continuing through Denver’s walkable downtown, you'll explore LoDo as you walk by the beautiful window displays of locally owned shops along the pedestrian-friendly 16th Street Mall. Your tour with a local guide wraps up at one of Denver's most famous spots: Union Station, where you'll hear about the plethora of entertainment options and choices of restaurants, bars and shops that you can enjoy after you're done exploring LoDo and our beautiful Mile High City on foot.

Historic Denver Walking Tour with a Local

Meeting Place:

  • The front steps are located just behind the Colorado Soldiers Monument statue pictured here. The front steps face west, towards the mountains and towards Lincoln St.

  • Be sure to arrive at least 5-10 minutes prior to the tour departure time to meet your guide. Tours do start and depart on time.

  • State Capitol: 200 E. Colfax Ave., Denver, CO, 80203. You can use this address to guide you to the Capitol, but your GPS will likely take you to the north side of the building, NOT to the front steps and front of the building.  

  • Tours still operate rain, snow, or shine and when events are happening at the Capitol or in Civic Center Park, and there are events almost every weekend in our warmer months. ​

    • In cases of extreme weather, our team will contact you with rescheduling or cancellation information.​

  • Your guide will be wearing a neon yellow Denver Walking Tours shirt. They may also be carrying a small green Denver Walking Tours sign, especially in less than ideal weather. 

  • Wheelchair and stroller accessible

  • The starting location of your Denver sightseeing tour can be changed to accommodate your needs, interests, and schedule; just email our team.

 

Ages:

  • All ages are welcome on our local tours!  Will kid(s) like a Denver walking tour? That really depends on your kiddo(s)! Our Denver sightseeing tours are suitable and designed to be enjoyed by all ages. Your local guide is trained and experienced in working with youth. Youth ages 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult on all Denver waking tours.

Odds & Ends:​

  • There is the Free 16th St. Mall shuttle that can take you back to the start of the historic Denver walking tour, if needed.  It runs every few minutes.  

  • Don't forget to bring water!
