Whether you're a first-time traveler or a seasoned globetrotter, there's something undeniably exciting about a quick trip. If you're in Denver for just one day, you may feel the pressure to pack in as much as possible. Fear not! As a local who loves to explore the beauty, culture, and flavors of the city, I’m here to share my insider tips on how to make the most of your day in the Mile High City.

Start Your Day with a Local Breakfast

Delicious eggs, bacon, toast, and coffee for breakfast.

Nothing sets the stage for a great day like a hearty breakfast. Head over to Snooze, an A.M. Eatery, for some delicious pancakes and unique breakfast twists. Although it can get busy, the wait is worth it. Their menu is full of standard favorites with some unique additions like their “Chilaquiles” or their “Pineapple Upside Down Pancakes.”

Stroll Through Downtown Denver

Snapshot of Downtown Denver.

After filling up on breakfast, it's time to hit the road (or the sidewalk, in this case). Discover Denver's Free Walking Tours are one of the best ways to get a feel for the city as you walk through Downtown Denver. We will take you on a leisurely stroll through 16th Street Mall (where you’ll find shops, street performers, and plenty of local art), the iconic Denver Pavilions, Larimer Square, and end at the stunning Union Station. To check available dates and reserve your spot, visit our website.

Explore the Art District on Santa Fe

Local street art.

Next, make your way to the Art District on Santa Fe. This vibrant neighborhood is bursting with color, featuring galleries, street art, and unique shops. If you happen to be there on the first Friday of the month, you’re in for a treat with the monthly Art Walk, but even on a regular day, just wandering through the area can be a fun experience. If you run into a local artist, feel free to stop and chat. Many like to give intel on their art and what they are working on.

Lunch at a Local Gem

By now, you probably worked up an appetite again. For a one-of-a-kind lunch option, head to Biker Jim’s Gourmet Dogs. This place is famous for its unique hot dogs, featuring everything from elk to rattlesnake sausage. It’s worth trying one (or two) of their specialties while enjoying the laid-back atmosphere.

Take a Nature Break at City Park

Park view of the city of Denver.

After lunch, you might want some fresh air and a gentle walk. Head over to City Park, where you can soak up the stunning views of the Rocky Mountains. This beautiful park is perfect for a short walk, a relaxed picnic, or even a paddleboat ride on the lake. Plus, the Denver Museum of Nature & Science is right there if you’re in the mood for even more exploration.

Discover the History and Culture of Denver

Denver's Union Station.

No trip to Denver would be complete without diving into some local history. Make your way to Union Station, a beautifully restored landmark that’s both a transportation hub and a fantastic place to shop and eat. Grab a coffee at Pigtrain Coffee Company and soak in the historic charm.

If you have a bit more time, consider visiting the History Colorado Center. It’s packed with interactive exhibits that tell the story of Colorado’s past.

Finish Your Day with Craft Beer or a Scenic View

As the sun begins to set, it’s time to wind down your adventurous day. You can’t visit Denver without trying some local craft beer. Head to Ballpark Neighborhood, where you can hop between breweries. Coors Field is also nearby, so you might be able to catch a game or just enjoy the view.

If you prefer a quieter route, take a short drive up to Lookout Mountain for a majestic view of the city and its surrounding landscape. The sunset from up there is simply magical.

While it’s hard to see everything this vibrant city has to offer in just one day, this One Day in Denver Itinerary will definitely help you experience an awesome blend of food, culture, and nature. Remember to pack your walking shoes, camera, and of course, a sense of adventure!

So, whether you’re in town for business or pleasure, know that Denver is bursting with activities just waiting for you to uncover. Happy travels.
